Hi all,
As promised…here’s a wonderful opportunity for you and your kids! Please see below.  Merryl (on behalf of Judy!)

Dear Teachers and School Administrators:

As some of you may know, CSUSM Theatre will be producing a Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) tour this coming fall. We are currently booking tour dates and times and wanted to reach out to you to see if you would be interested. I’d love to tell you a bit about the tour, the plays themselves, and the timeframe of the tour.

About the tour:

WHO:
You and your students, plus us! (We can perform for a small classroom or a large group of kids in an auditorium)
CSUSM theatre students will act in the plays, which are written by UCSD MFA Playwriting Candidate Kristin Idaszak, and directed by Dr. Judy Bauerlein (CSUSM faculty) and Rebecca Dennis (La Jolla Playhouse faculty).

WHAT:

We’re touring two plays that are based on Greek myths. We’re also planning a pre-show theatre game session (in your classroom) that will get your students thinking on their feet! Finally, we will be offering a “Teacher’s Guide” for both of the plays so that you can prepare your students for their theatre experience!

The plays are:

CAPTAIN BECCA, THE FEARED BUCCANEER (Ages K-2nd grade)
Becca is brand new at Apollo Elementary School, and she gets off on the wrong foot with her classmates when she shares with them her ability to transform the world around her. But will Becca go too far when the teasing gets out of hand? CAPTAIN BECCA, THE FEARED BUCCANEER is a swashbuckling adventure story about bullying, gender, and pirates.

ROSY-FINGERED DAWN AND THE WINGED SANDALS (Ages 3rd grade-5th grade)
When Rosy’s best friend Tim has to go away to see a special doctor for his bad cells, he promises her they can stay in touch through the online game Myth Makers. But once online, Rosy must convince the trickster god Hermes and the cranky king of the gods Zeus to help her find her friend. Rosy undergoes a quest that teaches her about the nature of loss and the eternal endurance of friendship and memory.

WHERE:
Your classroom or auditorium.

WHEN:
Fridays only
9am-11am (We can book more than 1 show at the same location in this 2 hour time slot)

Captain Becca: October 11, 18, 25 and November 1.

Rosy-Fingered Dawn: November 15, 22 and December 6.

WHY:
We love kids and we love theatre, AND we think that the combination is one of the most remarkable spectacles to behold!
